BIO-DIESEL FROM SEAWEED:
Aran and the energy of the future
Aran is not only synonymous for quality packaging for liquid foods – its activities extend to many other areas, including the development and manufacture of designated packaging for hi-tech, bio-technology and bio-medicine. One of the company’s more interesting developments that integrates well with the environmental approach, is a special package for the controlled cultivation of seaweed to produce bio-diesel. This Israeli development is designed to produce diesel from seaweed – a biological fuel considered an energy of the future. Aran provides the special bags for the reactors, the seaweed cultivation containers. This unique package allows the formation of a controlled atmosphere under the precise conditions required for the seaweed to develop rapidly and enable large scale production at reasonable costs, so that bio-diesel will become commercial in the coming years.
BIO-DIESEL IS AN IDEAL FUEL:
it is not flammable, not toxic, decomposes rapidly biologically, burning of it exudes a low quantity of carbon dioxide, suitable for use in existing diesel engines (including for home heating) and even improves engine performance – and it is cheaper than petrol or diesel. Seaweed bio-diesel is considered to be particularly worthwhile, because it constitutes an ecological energy solution that is not at the expense of world food potential, unlike bio-diesel produced from corn, soy or peanut oils. Seaweed is considered the most effective oil manufacturer on earth.. Under laboratory conditions it is possible to utilize up to 55% oil from the weight of the seaweed, and according to a calculation conducted by the American government's Department of Energy (DOE), it is possible to produce the entire quantity of diesel required for all human activities from seaweed. Aran is proud to be a part of the Israeli and world effort in this important field.
LEADERS IN THE CFP INDEX
Aran's BIB bags present exceptionally good CFP (Carbon Foot Print) values. This measure tests the "hand print" left by the product – how much carbon dioxide is released throughout the product life span, from the time of production until reaching the consumer. Aran products, which leave very low "trails" are the most environmentally friendly in the world of BIB.
PLASTIC IS GREENER THAN GLASS!
In the wine packaging world, for example, BIB packaging is more economical and greener than glass bottles. Despite the recycling capacity of glass, the CFP values of wine bottles are far higher than the Aran vinoflex packages. This derives from the expensive production process of the glass bottle, the extensive energy required for its production, the heavy weight of the bottles which makes transportation and storage more expensive by 30% than the plastic package. Bottom line: Vinoflex is more economical in materials, safer for use and adheres better to environmental demands than the glass bottle.
CONTRIBUTING TO THE OZONE LAYER
Aran is a clean factory in which all processes are environmentally friendly. For example, the laminate production process releases ozone gas (O3) as a by- product, which contributes to the thickening of the ozone layer. At Aran the gas is released gradually into the atmosphere to assist in protecting the planet.
GOING FOR RECYCLING
Most of the production process wastage in the factory is sent for recycling to a company that deals with plastic waste, using it to produce other plastic products. The result: an almost 100% usage of the raw materials – and minimum pollution.
